Hello - from Spokane, WA

Hello,

  I am glad to see a  forum exists.. I am in the design stages of developing a 2p16s 48V 560 AH battery bank and I wanted to discuss options and plans before selecting inverters and charge controllers and battery chargers, etc.

 

I want to have two (2)  110/120 inverters and one (1) 220/240v inverter connected .

I am planning to have bus bars for common pos and neg connections for inverters, charge controllers and battery bank.

Additionally, I was planning on using a small propane generator to recharge batteries instead of solar..... (solar just isn't available enough hours of the day ...... imho)

 

I would be interested in hearing if anyone else has experience building a system using bus bars with multiple inverters ....

May I ask...why 3 separate inverters?  All GS inverters (and most PJ inverters for the US market) are split-phase, so you get 240v across L1 - L2, and two 120v phases 180 degrees offset from L1 - N, and L2 - N.  With one inverter.

Don't see any problem with that, it's actually a clean way to set up a system.  Just a word of warning: you want to put the bus bars in such a way that you can't drop a metal tool across 'em.  Because believe me: if it can happen, it will.  I shorted my batteries out by accident when putting a magnetic DC meter on a cable to the inverter...and the metal back somehow bridged the two battery terminals. 

Technically I've got something similar to that on my current system...my DIY 16S 12kwh LFP bank has big steel (!) plates on the end that all the breakers are wired to.  (While I only have 1 inverter, I've got 3 MPPTs.)

DC breakers of course are polarity sensitive, so the inverter ones are polarized for load, and the MPPT ones for charge (though that is a debatable point, as the only way they can blow out is to short the battery out, which would be a load...umm...!)
